Fishermans Walk Beach is a stretch of beach which is popular with the locals and located between Southbourne Beach and Boscombe Beach offering a break from the hustle and bustle of Bournemouth centre but still offering golden sandy beaches with stunning views. The beach is mostly sand with the occasional shingle. Easy access to the beach via Southbourne Overcliffe Drive where you will find a generous amount of on-road parking. At the top of the Zig Zag is located family-friendly Cafe Riva seating 40 customers inside and 120+ customers outside. A gentle gradient zig zag gives an opportunity for a gentle stroll down through Fishermans Walk Zig Zag to the family-friendly Blue Flag Beach. During the summer months, the beach is designated as a people only beach with a dog exercise area between the Fishermans Walk Beach and the Easterly Southbourne Beach.
The beach at Fishermans Walk is typically quieter than the main beaches at East Cliff Beach and West Cliff Beach and possesses its own food and drinks outlet, there are toilet blocks and when the weather is warm options to purchase local ice cream.
Fishermans Walk itself is a historic green space near both the coast and the busy shopping area of Southbourne Grove. It's a Green Flag winning park which leads from Southbourne high street to the clifftop and has stunning views over Fishermans Walk Beach. The park itself consists of formal and informal planting with lawns and an ornamental pond before your reach the over cliff. Within the park, there is a small 1920s bandstand which is used at the various events held in the park throughout the year. The park is maintained by the Friends of Fishermans Walk which are a volunteer group of local residents committed to raising awareness and of the use of the walk promoting its benefit for the community. The gardens were built and opened by the mayor of Bournemouth in 1913, named after a straight woodland walk which had been used for many years by local fisherman on their way from the beach to the New Bell Inn at Pokesdown.
