Bournemouth Beach Management Scheme

A programme of work to protect Bournemouth’s coastline is planned over the next 17 years. Known as the Bournemouth Beach Management Scheme. The council have identified that the Keeping our seven miles of golden beach clean and safe is a big task.


The work will be delivered in a phased approach with phase one beginning in the autumn, subject to licensing permissions. The first phase (2015 – 2020) will involve the replacement of 25 groynes spanning the seafront from Southbourne to Hengistbury Head and a beach replenishment between Bournemouth Pier and Boscombe Piers and to the east of Boscombe Pier during autumn/winter 2015/16.

Phases two and three will replace the remaining groynes along the seafront from Southbourne to Alum Chine and a further two beach replenishments.

BBHA re-formed as an association to represent the interests of beach hut tenants and owners In March 2009 when Bournemouth Borough Council advised us that beach huts on the Seafront would be liable for non-domestic rates.
